Prof. Dr. Andreas Schilling



Andreas Schilling studied Physics at the University of Tübingen, Germany, from where he received his MS in Physics (Dipl.-Phys.) in 1988 and his PhD in computer science in 1995. He worked as a professor at the HdM Stuttgart (Stuttgart Media University). Since 2003 he is  professor at the graphics lab of the University of Tübingen (WSI/GRIS).

His papers in the areas of  anti-aliasing, texturing and hardware architectures for graphics have been  published  in journals and on conferences (e.g. SIGGRAPH).Schilling is also working in the program committee of internationalconferences and  as a reviewer for several journals, including Computers & Graphics, IEEE Computer Graphics & Applications, and Computer Graphics Forum.

He holds several patents in the field of computer graphics, among them (together with Günter Knittel) a very influential patent concerning anisotropic texture filtering and the base for S3TC, sold to S3 Inc.

He is leading projects and activities in the areas of computer graphics, computer vision, medical image processing and machine learning: DFG: Perceptual Graphics, DFG: Hasim BW-FIT: Gigapixel Video, BW-FIT: Gigapixel Rendering, EU Network of Excellence: 3DTV, and several others.
